Using the Duplicator Plugin
Jul 23, 2013
Navigate to the admin screen. Go to Duplicator –> Packages.
There are no packages.
Create a new package.
Download the Installer and Package by clicking the icons to the right.
Use an FTP client or your web hosts file manager to put the installer and package in the directory where you want your wordpress install to go. In this case, I am creating a duplicate, development version of the site using a separate database and a subdomain.
Navigate to the the installer file on the domain where you are doing the install. It will be something like www.subdomain.domain.com/installer.php. If you have the right path, you’ll see the Duplicator installer pane. Set your database User, Password, and Database Name here. Be careful. You could easily overwrite a database or dump website files that you want to keep if you get the settings wrong. If you are trying to overwrite a website, you’ll need to select Table Removal, which will clear the database before extracting the package.
Click “Test Connection…” to find out if the installer finds and connects with your database.
If everything is good, click Run Deployment. If your Deployment is successful, you’ll have the option to review the old and new URL/Path settings, create New Admin Accounts, and hand choose which tables to drop in the Advanced Settings. You probably don’t need to get into the Advanced Settings.
If the install is successful, you’ll reach page three, which gives you several instructions. On the bottom, you can see errors, if any occurred.
Be sure to eliminate the files associated with the Duplicator Duplication so that you can’t get hacked.
Now, when you go to the directory, you should see your site!
