Using the Plugin
This video is a great, general intro to the iThemes DisplayBuddy Slideshow Plugin. Below the video, you’ll see supplemental details on using the Plugin.
Inserting Links and Captions
Once you’ve set up the images that will be in your slideshow (or, as you insert each image) you can set hyperlinks and captions. Here, I have a slideshow with several slides, each slide corresponds to a page on the website. So, each slide links to the corresponding page and includes caption content to describe what that page is about.
To edit the link and caption, hover over the slide area to make the “Edit Image Settings” link appear. (If there were not already links and captions, to add new, follow this same procedure.) Click to edit the image settings. You should see this:
The fields that you can modify include:
Title – what the slide is called, viewable only on the admin page for the group of slides being edited.
Link URL – if you set a link URL, users will be able to click the slide, their browser will load the Link URL in the same window/tab with which the user is viewing the site.
Caption – the caption displays over the slide image, by default, the caption displays in a black box at the bottom of the slide. A little CSS can change the default look of the caption. Talk to me about getting some work done if you need a hand. Captions can be used to create dynamic content that changes slide-by-slide.
The caption can support all basic HTML tags. Even inline CSS! In the example above, <h2>TITLE</h2> is used to set the title of the slide and <p>PARAGRAPH</p> is used to set the format for the paragraph content.
